182 days and counting....

12/5/2011 10:27:25 AM

While most people are counting the days until Christmas (20), in just 182 days hurricane season starts again in the Atlantic basin. Florida has been very fortunate to have had no direct hits in six years, but this year was one of the most active on record, with 19 named storms, tying for third in history's annals.

While Florida was spared a direct hit in 2011, property loss insurance estimates were just increased for Hurricane Irene in some northeastern states, reminding all that hurricanes can land anywhere and preparedness is key.   Now is the time to begin planning the maintenance, repairs and upgrades that will make your house more secure against a future storm.

If you have not had a hurricane mitigation inspection done on your home, you should consider it.  Some hefty credits on your homeowner insurance premium are available for construction features that protect the house from strong winds.  You can choose any licensed property inspector to do the inspection, or if you contact our office we will gladly tell you of a few that we have had good experiences with.
